Simulated architectural lighting dialogue between two Amsterdam waterfront towers at night
Across the water / a simulated lighting dialogue

Architecture / Architectural lighting concept

A conversation across the water.

An Amsterdam waterfront lighting study explores warm-white architectural emphasis, a special-event orange state and a visual dialogue between Havengebouw and A’DAM Toren.

01 / The design question

How can two separate waterfront buildings be read as part of one night-time conversation?

02 / The approach

  1. Use a restrained warm-white baseline to explore the legibility of each building.
  2. Study their relationship across the water rather than treating facade lighting as an isolated object.
  3. Separate the everyday concept from a more expressive orange special-event state.

03 / Deliverables

  • Architectural lighting concept stills
  • Warm-white and special-event variations
  • Comparative lighting presentation

What the work makes clear

The study gives the night-time relationship between the buildings a visual basis for discussion.
